Emily the Strange Lands Writer Kealan O'Rourke

Kealan O'Rourke signs on to rewrite Emily the Strange

Kealan O'Rourke has been brought on to rewrite the languishing graphic novel adaptation Emily the Strange.

We first reported on the project back in 2010, when Chloe Moretz signed on to star as the title character. Then, in August 2011, Melisa Wallack (Dallas Buyers Club, Mirror Mirror) signed on to write the script, but that was the last we heard about the adaptation until now.

The character was created in 1993 by pro skateboarder Rob Reger, which was initially used to promote a clothing line. The adaptation reportedly centers on Emily's origin story and how she gains her ability to fuse technology and imagination. The story also follows Emily's relationship with her four cats, Sabbath, Nee-Chee, Miles and Mystery. Of course, now that a new writer is involved, this all could change.

Dark Horse's Mike Richardson is producing, with Rob Reger and Keith Goldberg executive producing. Kealan O'Rourke is currently developing a feature version of his short film The Boy in the Bubble.

Emily the Strange comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Chloe Moretz.

Gravity Featurette 'IMAX Behind the Frame'

Director Alfonso Cuarón discusses why the immersive IMAX format is perfect for Gravity in a behind-the-scenes featurette, revealing that he was inspired by the 2010 IMAX documentary Hubble 3D while designing the film. We also hear from actual NASA astronauts who consulted on the sci-fi thriller in this four-minute presentation. In addition, Warner Bros. has released the sixth TV spot for this October 4 release.

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Gravity comes to theaters October 4th, 2013 and stars Sandra Bullock, George Clooney. The film is directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

Paranormal Activity 5 lands director Gregory Plotkin

Gregory Plotkin, who served as the editor and co-producer on Paranormal Activity 2, Paranormal Activity 3, Paranormal Activity 4 and the spin-off Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, is making his directorial debut with Paranormal Activity 5.

We reported last night that Almanac scribes Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark, who also goes by Andrew Deutschman, are writing the script, although no plot details have been revealed. Jason Blum and Oren Peli are producing, although it isn't known when production will get under way.

2013 marks the first year since the Paranormal Activity franchise launched in 2009 that there will not be a sequel in theaters. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, which is being directed by Christopher Landon, is hitting theaters on January 3, 2014, with Paranormal Activity 5 to follow on October 25, 2014.

Gregory Plotkin has previously served as assistant editor on Pleasantville, The Insider and The Break-Up, to name just a few.
