(Warning: This story contains Major Spoilers!) Spider-Man folklore tells us that Gwen Stacy dies after Spider-Man snaps her neck trying to save her during a fall in a fight with the Green Goblin. Previous set photos have showed us Emma Stone in Gwen's iconic death outfit. But What If? What If director Marc Webb is planning a twist ending that does not follow The Amazing Spider-Man issue #121, but instead is taking a cue from What If? #24, which reimagines the entire scenario, with Peter Parker able to save Gwen instead of causing her whiplash?
This would be the first time that Marvel has brought their cult What If? comic to the screen, and it would provide for a twist longtime Spider-Man fans aren't expecting. Gwen's death has been promised, but maybe it won't come at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after all.
New set photos once again find Gwen in her iconic green jacket, purple skirt, and Go-Go boots. Only here, we see Peter swinging her to triumphant safety. The big question looming over The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is, will Gwen live or die? Judging from these latest images, its quite possible that fans are being set up to expect her death, only to see her saved and later struck down by a bus Final Destination style. It would make sense. Gwen's death needs to be a shock. It needs to be unexpected. What if Marc Webb is planning a What If? adaptation? We think that would be pretty cool. What do you think?
In related news, we also have shots of Spider-Man in the park, jumping over a barbed wire fence. Check out these other set photos from earlier in the week, which promise we'll get some Spidey-action in the daylight.
