Marvel is known for their somewhat unorthodox casting choices over the years. Before Iron Man became a massive blockbuster, Robert Downey Jr. was considered a controversial choice to lead a big-budget franchise. Of course, it all turned out just fine, with the 2008 movie launching Robert Downey Jr.'s career into the stratosphere. Now, according to an unconfirmed report, the actor wants to bring in his old friends Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster to co-star in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Here's what an unidentified source has to say about Robert Downey Jr.'s efforts to bring Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster on board for the highly-anticipated sequel.
While casting Jodie Foster would reportedly be "no problem" for Marvel, Mel Gibson is a different story, due to his much-publicized anti-Semitic rant in 2006.
Robert Downey Jr. reportedly pitched the idea of Mel Gibson playing the U.S. President in Iron Man 3, but that idea was shot down, with the role eventually going to William Sadler. However, the unnamed source reveals that Robert Downey Jr. will keep pushing to get his friends hired.
Robert Downey Jr. has a lucrative five-year deal with Marvel Studios, which includes returning as Tony Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Avengers 3, along with consulting on future Iron Man movies. Would you like to see Mel Gibson or Jodie Foster in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Let us know!
Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1st, 2015 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Mark Ruffalo. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.
