While Disney's Star Wars: Episode VII is still shrouded in secrecy, the studio is starting to reveal more information regarding the upcoming TV series Star Wars Rebels. We already knew that the show would debut with a one-hour premiere on The Disney Channel this fall, before it transitions to its regular home on Disney XD. However, the studio has now revealed in their annual shareholder letter that the show will actually kick off with a TV movie this summer, followed by a number of short films before the series premiere.
Here's what Disney CEO Robert A. Iger had to say in an excerpt of the letter.
The series takes place between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, centering on the formation of the Rebel Alliance, as a new villain dubbed The Inquisitor hunts down the remaining Jedi Knights. Along with The Inquisitor, who was first revealed in October, the series will also feature a new droid named Chopper. The main story will take place on an Outer Rim planet known as Lothal.
We'll keep you posted as soon as we have any official details about when this Star Wars Rebels movie will debut on The Disney Channel.
