Evil Dead 4, which will presumably continue the story of the original The Evil Dead and its two follow-ups, is actually going to be Army of Darkness 2, a direct sequel to the final film, 1993's Army Of Darkness. And as far as we know, it will continue the storyline of Ash Williams, the iconic horror character created Bruce Campbell.
Director Sam Raimi made horror headlines last week while promoting his latest film Oz: The Great and Powerful, when he claimed that he would actually start writing Evil Dead 4 this summer with his brother Ivan Raimi, who has collaborated with Sam on the first three films.
Evil Dead, the 2013 remake by director Fede Alvarez, premiered Friday night at SWSX, where it was met with general praise from the crowd of horror fans who gathered early and stood in line for hours to see it. After the screening, producers Robert G. Tapert and Bruce Campbell participated in a Q&A about the new Evil Dead, where questions about Evil Dead 4 were answered.
It was Rob Tapert who clarified that Evil Dead 4 is actually going to be Army of Darkness 2. He explains.
Bruce Campbell, who fans have long hoped would return as Ash, had this to say about his possible come back.
Nothing has been confirmed in terms of Army of Darkness 2 moving into production, but Evil Dead 2 is confirmed to be in the works, and will be a direct sequel to the 2013 version of the horror movie, which arrives in April.
Army of Darkness 2 comes to theaters in 2016 and stars Bruce Campbell. The film is directed by Sam Raimi.
