Latest News: Man of Steel 2 Coming in 2014 with Justice League to Arrive in 2015!

Man of Steel 2 plans 2014 release date

Its Monday morning after the weekend release of Man of Steel, and its being considered a blockbuster hit, with the Superman reboot bringing in an estimated $ 125.1 million since launching with a special Walmart preview this past Thursday night. The film is garnering great word of mouth, which means it's likely that more and more audiences will go throughout the week, lending into its second #1 weekend. And it's likely that this DC Comics adventure will see repeat business from happy fans.

Its long been known that the fate of Justice League, DC and Warner Bros.'s answer to Disney and Marvel Studios' Marvel's The Avengers, rests on the success of Man of Steel. It's being reported by The Wall Street Journal today that Man of Steel 2 is being fast tracked and will be on screens in time for a 2014 release date. The film will introduce at least one major DC Comics character, leading into Justice League, which "knowledgeable people close to the studio" claim is confirmed for a 2015 release date.

2015 has long been the planned date for Justice League, so maybe preproduction is further along than we think at this point.

Dan Fellman, Warner's president of domestic distribution, had this to say.

It's more than just a franchise for us; it really opens up the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters. We can build them up like Marvel did and benefit from the history of DC."

With 2014 less than a year away, it seems implausible that DC and Warner Bros. would be able to get Man of Steel 2 ready in time to meet that release. We know that Zack Snyder is returning as a director, and that David S. Goyer is returning as a writer. We've also long heard of major announcements coming out of the DC Comics camp. Is it possible that a sequel to Man of Steel is ready to go? Will shooting begin before the end of the year? Has stuff already been shot?

This is turning into a very interesting story, and we'll keep you updated as more information comes in. This might all turn out to just be wishful thinking on Warner Bros. part, and their recent track record with Justice League has indicated that we wouldn't be seeing it for a very long time. Its quite possible that all of this is a lot further along that we could have hoped or imagined.

Man of Steel was released June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, Richard Schiff. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.
