Two Captain Phillips TV Spots

Fans who tuned into the Breaking Bad series finale on AMC last night were treated to a sneak preview of Columbia Pictures' upcoming true-story thriller Captain Phillips. We have the full video right here, plus another TV spot and an announcement from IMAX that director Paul Greengrass' true story adaptation will be released in IMAX theaters October 11. Take a look at the latest footage, then read the official press release for more details.

IMAX Corporation, in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, a division of Sony Corp., today announced that Captain Phillips will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format and released in select IMAX theaters worldwide beginning October 11.

Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. It is - through director Paul Greengrass' distinctive lens - simultaneously a pulse-pounding thriller, and a complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama's commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two time Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. Phillips and Muse are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips' unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, 145 miles off the Somali coast, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.

The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Greengrass, from a screenplay by Billy Ray based upon the book, A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, by Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty. The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca.

IMAX CEO Greg Foster released the following statement about this upcoming IMAX release.

"As he's proven before with acclaimed projects including United 93, Paul Greengrass is adept at taking subject matter based on real historical events and transforming it into a rich entertainment experiences for global audiences. We're also excited to team up once again with Tom Hanks, who always delivers the kind of powerful performance that resonates with IMAX moviegoers."

The IMAX release of Captain Phillips will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Captain Phillips comes to theaters October 11th, 2013 and stars Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, John Magaro, Max Martini, Michael Chernus, Christopher Stadulis, Chris Mulkey, David Warshofsky. The film is directed by Paul Greengrass.

James Spader Talks Prepping for The Avengers: Age of Ultron

James Spader is already prepping for The Avengers: Age of Ultron

While we have known since August that James Spader is portraying the villain Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, there is still much we don't know about the character.

During a recent interview for his NBC series The Blacklist, the actor revealed he recently spoke with director Joss Whedon about the role, and that he went in and had photographs taken for head and body scans.

"I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it. And yes, actually, just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I'm gonna fit in this Ultron character!"

Although it hasn't been confirmed, it is possible that James Spader may portray Ultron through motion capture technology, rather than simply providing the voice. In a separate interview, he also spoke about why he agreed to take on this coveted role.

"I think it'll be a lot of fun and it's incredibly nostalgic for me. When I was a kid my best friend had trunks of comics and I didn't have any so I used to love going for sleepovers at his house. Also I have three sons and two of them have a great interest in comics so they're excited I'm playing the role."

In related news, Scarlett Johansson, who is returning as the Black Widow, revealed that production is scheduled to begin this January.

"We'll be shooting that in January. I think we're taking it to the streets this time, I think we're going overseas."

We reported in July that Black Widow and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye will have much bigger roles in the sequel. Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill) are reprising their roles from Marvel's The Avengers, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen in negotiations to play Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1st, 2015 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Mark Ruffalo. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Horrible Bosses 2 Lands Thanksgiving 2014 Release Date

Horrible Bosses 2 lands a Thanksgiving 2014 release date

New Line Cinema has handed out a November 26, 2014 release date for Horrible Bosses 2, which is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving next year. The only other movie slated to open on that date is the Fox animated comedy Home (previously known as Happy Smekday!), which features the voices of Jim Parsons and Rihanna. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and McFarland are opening five days earlier on November 21, 2014.

Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis and Jamie Foxx reprise their roles from 2011's Horrible Bosses in this comedy sequel, although no story details have been revealed yet. The original comedy earned over $ 200 million worldwide from just a $ 35 million budget.

Sean Anders is directing from a screenplay by original Horrible Bosses writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. We reported earlier this month that production is already under way.

Horrible Bosses 2 comes to theaters November 26th, 2014 and stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jamie Foxx. The film is directed by Sean Anders.
