Helen Mirren joins The Hundred-Foot Journey

Helen Mirren and Indian actor Manish Dayal are set to star in The Hundred-Foot Journey for Walt Disney Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures. We first reported on the project last month, when Disney issued an August 8, 2014 release date.

The story is based on Richard Morais' novel that follows an Indian family who moves to the south of France. When they open up an Indian restaurant right across from a prominent, Michelin-rated French restaurant, a rivalry begins between the two establishments. No details were given for Helen Mirren and Manish Dayal's characters.

Lasse Hallström (Safe Haven) is directing from a screenplay by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises), adapted from Richard Morais' book. Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Juliet Blake are producing, with shooting scheduled to begin this September in France and India.

Helen Mirren lent her voice to Dean Hardscrabble in Disney Pixar's Monsters University, currently playing in theaters, and she will next be seen in Red 2. Manish Dayal was recently seen in an arc on ABC Family's Switched at Birth.

The Hundred-Foot Journey comes to theaters August 8th, 2014 and stars Helen Mirren, Manish Dayal. The film is directed by Lasse Hallström.
