Lucasfilm Confirms J.J. Abrams Is Not Dropping Out of Star Wars: Episode VII

J.J. Abrams is not exiting Star Wars: Episode VII confirms Lucasfilm

Coming out of Comic-Con 2013, Alamo Drafthouse online site Baddass Digest left a dangling 'maybe' at the end of a story about Star Trek 3 that suggested director J.J. Abrams had considered leaving Star Wars: Episode VII this past spring. That quickly took on a life as its own, turning into a rumor that J.J. Abrams had completely bailed on the hugely anticipated event movie of the year.

The rumor grew so big over the course of the evening that Lucasfilm felt it necessary to issue a confirmation that the director was still with Star Wars: Episode VII, releasing a statement to clarify the fact that he wasn't leaving.

Here is Lucasfilm's official words on the wildfire rumor.

"There is no truth to the rumor. J.J. is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year."

The rumor stated that J.J. Abrams was unhappy about shooting in London, and having to move his family there for an extended period of time. He was also reportedly unhappy about the really tight development process, with a film needed for a 2015 release date. There is still a persistent rumor that J.J. Abrams is directing Star Trek 3 in 2014 as well.

A Star Wars celebration is happening this weekend in Europe. Look for any big announcements to happen then.

Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters in 2015 and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.
